Alcorn State University (Alcorn) is a historically black comprehensive land-grant institution located northwest of Lorman, Mississippi in rural Claiborne County. It was founded in 1871 by the Reconstruction-era legislature to provide higher education for freedmen. It is the first black land grant college established in the United States. The university is counted as a census-designated place and had a resident population of 1,017 at the 2010 census.[3]

One of Alcorn's most notable alumni, Medgar Evers, a civil rights activist, graduated in 1952. Students at the college were part of the mid-twentieth century civil rights struggle, working to register residents for voting and struggling to end segregation. Other alumni have been activists, politicians and professionals in Mississippi and other states. The university is a member-school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.

Alcorn State's athletic teams known as the Braves and compete in the NCAA's Division I. All teams compete as members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC)

Questions to be answered:

1. Is it true that the stream shown above separates Alcorn from the Estate of Ed Smith?

2. Is it true that the Alcorn dorms shown in these pics sits on 89 acres of the Estate of Ed Smith?

3. Is it true that part of our land was illegally sold to Alcorn?

4. Is it true that Alcorn has inquired to insert a device to extract from the stream that we share with them?

5. Is it true that the land near Alcorn is Ed Smith's or his brother, Tip Smith's land?

These are questions that have resurfaced and remain unanswered but are actively being investigated.  If YOU know any of these answers, please share with the Administrators or Representatives to help the Estate move forward.
In April 2016, the family made a visit to Alcorn University to discuss land possibilities with the former President, Dr. Alfred Rankins Jr.  Dr. Rankin suggested we hire a Marketing firm to assess not only Alcorn's interest but the overall 60 mile radius area of the community.  However, for the students, Dr. Rankin's shared that they strongly desire a Chick-fil-A restaurant, a multi-cultural restaurant for their international students, a Dollar Store, Gym, and Gas Station. In turn, the Family inquired if the Marketing students could conduct that study. Rankin was open to the idea and said he would get back with us.  Rankin also agreed with other suggestions such as building a Beauty Supply Store, Nail Salon, Apartments, and a Hotel for the students family member during their visits.  Thanks to cousin Belinda Chambers (yellow hat), we were able to arrange this meeting at a moments notice. Going forward, the Administrators are planning a follow-up meeting before the end of 2017 to discuss Gregory Foster's idea with HDR.
